Rabot Hotel from Hotel Chocolat

St Lucia, Caribbean

The hotel

On the site of the oldest cocoa plantation in St Lucia, the Rabot Hotel is definitely one for the chocoholics amongst you! Having said that, for the rare being that doesn’t delight in the dark stuff, this is pretty wonderful too. In a stunning location, with magnificent views of Gros Piton, luxurious mountainside lodges combine relaxed St Lucian charm with the ultimate in contemporary sophistication. Echoing the rich tones of freshly harvested cacao, dark woods exude cosy warmth with four-poster beds, a rainforest shower and freshly made chocolate treats (of course!) definite highlights. The spa too utilises the area’s natural treasure with a variety of creams, oils and scrubs, all made on the premises, specifically designed to harness the rejuvenating powers of the pod! You can even learn to make chocolate yourself at the Tree to Bean experience – truffle anyone? If you’re a foodie, you’re in for a serious treat at the Rabot Restaurant. Start the evening with a delicious mango, chilli and white chocolate margarita before perusing the delights on the menu, which is pioneering to say the least, exploring both the savoury and the sweet nature of chocolate. Fresh seafood is also to be found in abundance, accompanied by the finest of wines for an experience that is nothing less than sublime.

I went on a solo trip (first time alone leaving the country) and had an Airbnb mishap when the place was advertised much differently than it turned out (don’t book topaz apartments!). I was happy Hotel Chocolat had a last minute booking available for my quick 3 night trip. I had been eying it for a few years and always thought it looked amazing, just out of my budget. But it was much cheaper last minute for some reason, and they upgraded me to the lux lodge. The view was absolutely breathtaking, and I stayed many hours on the porch relaxing and enjoying the Piton view. Do not miss the sunset from the luxe rooms or the restaurant! The restaurant’s best meal is their (included) breakfast. The fruit plate that comes out in the beginning is soooo fresh. The cocoa French toast was the best breakfast I had. Dinner is very expensive and meh. I walked and taxi’d off property for half my meals and got some incredible seafood. Portions were huge and a fraction of the price. There’s a local restaurant just outside the security gate. I got their buffet to-go and ate it at the airport. Very very good. Martha’s table near the beach was amazing as well. I took the included shuttle to the beach (starts with an M), walked up the hill to Martha’s table and it was 100% worth it. But… the hotel said the free shuttle isn’t included despite just being like 10 yards away from the road the shuttle turns out. They find ways to charge you any way they can ($20 cab ride back, but was still cheaper than eating at the hotel restaurant). I didn’t stay long enough to do any other excursions (and my view was just that good. Lol) but did the chocolate tour. It was fun. I recommend eating at the local bar up there. I had the best chocolate shake of my life there. I walked the trails around the hotel by myself and never once felt unsafe (unlike my Airbnb in Soufriere). Planning to go back with my husband in two years. Can’t wait!!! I’ve been to half the Caribbean and St Lucia is my new favorite. Read less

The food was great no issues there- but it was very unorganized we planned and booked the chocolate tour through them and it was a mess and the tour was so late we missed check out time and didnt get to enjoy out lunch but overall it was lovely , the grounds were nice too - we also stayed at Ladera and preferred here. Beautiful location and stylish hotel with such friendly helpful staff. The staff were really happy to organise activities and lay on things to do but if you want to just relax and do nothing no one was the least bit pushy. I would definitely come back.
