Michelle’s Rum Tasting!! Great morning of rum tasting learning all about the Barbadian and other local Rums. Great fun and educational 😇. Michelle is a mine of information on all that Barbados has to offer added with enthusiasm, especially around Rum! Be careful of the size of those shots!!!

Just returned from The Soco Hotel on Monday this week. We booked last minute and didn't know exactly what to expect. When we arrived our initial thoughts were that the hotel was very clean although needed a bit of freshening up in the public areas. The staff were lovely and extremely helpful. The room was very nice although again would benefit from some small cosmetic touches although the view from the balcony was worth every penny that we had paid for the holiday. Staff serviced and cleaned the room every day and provided clean bath and beach towels. We paid for a Soco deluxe room which carried a small supplement. It is worthy of note that it appears that 22 of the 24 rooms are deluxe and the remaining 2 are the Soco room and are on the ground floor near to the pool bar and have a terrace area. These rooms do not offer the same spectacular view as we experienced. The food was excellent throughout our stay, the meals are all served restaurant style and therefore no buffet choice which suited us. The lunch and dinner menus comprise of three courses with a choice of five starters and five mains and are changed every two days. Deserts were delicious and again there was a great choice and we didn't eat the same thing twice. The food is freshly cooked in an open kitchen and we did not experience a bad or disappointing meal during our holiday. The only bar area at the hotel is by the swimming pool although this is fully stocked and served a fantastic range of local beer, Rum and branded spirits. The cocktails were also fantastic although some may feel that 10am is too early to start. The bar was generally open from 1000am until 1030pm. As the hotel is situated directly on the boardwalk, it is possible, and in our experience very safe to walk out in the evenings as there is a good selection of local bars and restaurants in easy reach. The happy hour at Chill (five minutes away) is a great place to take a drink and listen to some live music. The beach outside the hotel is very beautiful and has a rocky break water which makes for a very warm shallow area ideal for bathing at low tide. The beach is clean and secure although as with all beaches in Barbados it is public which was not a problem and was lovely to see local families enjoying the bank holiday. Pebble Beach is a ten minute walk away and do not miss seeing the race horses from The Barbados Turf Club bathing each morning between 6am and 7am. We travelled to both Oistins Fish Fry on Friday evening and St Lawrence Gap for drinks, both of which are within easy reach of the hotel using the local small buses (Reggae) which was a fantastic experience!! I would have no hesitation in recommending the Soco Hotel and would definitely return. Read less

Amazing hotel, lovely staff, superb food and the rum tasting: just awesome! Michelle did and amazing cultural run tasting at the hotel (every Wednesday). The hotel is right on the beach with beautiful views and that amazing blue and green sea. The resistant staff and food are so, so good!
