Downgraded 3 room categories on arrival, had several meetings that felt like wasted time & just lip service with managers. At check out I was still asking what the cost was for being downgraded. They told me someone would email me to share the cost differential but now I’m learning there will be no refund from corporate. They did provide a resort credit but it couldn’t be applied to the massage we pre booked, nor to get wines at dinner from the wine list. So I got $250 in sunscreen from the resort shop and the blissful feeling of knowing I will never ever recommend or stay here at any Sandals establishment again. Did we enjoy the rest of our time at the resort? Well… The bowling alley is a highlight of this resort but only 2/4 lanes are operational, the wait is usually 45 mins and then you only get 30 mins of time to play. They expect you to have packed your own socks. They will also give you two different shoe sizes. The bar is incredibly slow despite 3 people working it and none are making you a craft cocktail so I’m not sure why it takes so long. The swim up bar one of the days was closed due to a technical difficulty. Didn’t know ice and pouring booze could require anything technical, more than likely this is staffing shortage which seemed rampant all over. Service was so slow. Food was pretty decent I will admit but the misadventures daily outweighed most of my trip. Oh but you get 3 butlers who walk you to and fro the resort. Not sure this was really necessary and felt like more of wasted time. The communication is lacking between them and the other functions. A taxi to a nearby area 10-15 mins away costs $60 US which feels like a complete rip off. Read less

The resort is amazing, beautiful and has so much to offer, but it’s our butler team that honestly made our experience here so incredible! Their customer service, kindness and friendship has made this a vacation one we will always cherish and we are beyond grateful for them! Sandals Royal Barbados 🇧🇧 May 2024 We arrived in Barbados airport and were immediately greeted by the sweetest lady who took us through customs and baggage them directly to a waiting Rolls Royce ! Fantastic touch Sandlas ! A short ride later, we arrived at the Royal Barbados, and we’re taking directly to our beautiful Rondovol suite ! The room was extremely spacious and had everything we needed and the was extremely comfortable. The fridge was stocked. And we always had an afternoon snack waiting. The pool closest to us was the quiet pool, which we very much enjoyed. The drinks were plentiful and lunch was always provided by our fantastic Butler group Shaquille, Mya and Latoya !! We dined at the majority of the restaurants to include Neptunes, Portofino, Butches chophouse, Chi, Bombay, La Parisian, and Schooners. We enjoyed breakfast at the locations that served à la cart. The food was some of the best we’ve experienced with Sandals date. Our favorite by far was Bombay, which was outstanding followed closely by Butches Chop House ! The waitresses in both locations were fantastic!! The beach was also beautiful, but did have some seaweed on some days! The weather was fantastic on all days ! The photographers on site do an outstanding job with special mention to Dewayne with a ‘w’ He took outstanding photos and was super fun to work with! We did a beautiful snorkel tour to Carlisle Bay and saw beautiful turtles, flying fish, tarpon and and shipwrecks! One final, thanks to our outstanding Butler staff, Shaquille, Mya , and Latoya for taking our vacation over the top! You guys are fantastic💕🇧🇧 A very few small cons to mention Our room had a private pool and fenced area which was not cleaned or running upon our arrival. This I thought was a significant oversight when you spend the money to have a beautiful room. The phone never worked our entire stay, and the shower water in our room fluctuated often from cold hot. Despite these very few things, we had an outstanding stay and look forward to our next adventure with Sandals Grenada! Read less

Overall this resort was disappointing. Of the highlights: The property is beautiful, especially at night. Our room placement was perfect. We had great meals at the Butch's on the Barbados side (there are two resorts side by side but they are seamless), Soy, Heart and Sol for lunch and La Parisienne for breakfast and dinner. When it came to food, the best word is inconsistent. Aside from the ones mentioned above, the other meals were sub-par, including at the Butch's on the Royal Side. In some cases the food was almost inedible and at breakfast one day we were told they had run out of fruit plates. Kimono's was so-so - we were the only couple at the hibachi table at first (and no one came to offer us drinks while we waited), eventually another couple came, but we didn't get the hibachi experience other tables were getting, the chef basically chopped and cooked the food, put it on our plates and left. The food itself was good but nothing spectacular. There were a few friendly staff, and David at the Oasis bar was great (the pool by the Greenhouse and Heart and Sol), but the others were at best professionally indifferent to downright rude. Some bar staff would full out ignore us. We appreciate how hard they work and we are always polite and patient, and I know there were guests there that were not, but we were really surprised at the overall unhappiness/grumpiness of the staff. We were never able to get chairs at the beach or main pool, but did find some at the South Seas pool and Oasis pool. The water in all the pools was oddly murky as others have noted. Towels were also hard to come by on some days. Part of the chair access issues I believe is due to people leaving their towels on claimed chairs after they have decided to either go somewhere else or pack it in for the day. Other resorts we have stayed at have staff monitoring the chairs and clearing away towels etc after two hours of chairs being empty, but there was no one doing that here - and yes there shouldn't need to be that if people clean-up after themselves, but many don't. Housekeeping was inconsistent, sometimes towels were refreshed and replaced and other times they were not. We had a Club level room which was nice, basic, but nice. They left us a card and a bottle of sparkling wine on ice, with flower petals on the bed for our anniversary, which as a nice touch. We are glad we got the swim-out room it was at the end of the block right by a waterfall so it was very private (the Loggerhead building, room 10101). We got sun in the daytime so the water was perfect, not to cold but not warm like the main pools. It was also nice to have drink options in our room as many of the bars started closing down around 4:30 so with late dinner reservations we had a lot of time to kill in between. The bars also close fairly early so the same goes for being able to have a drink in our room. Restaurant reservations are hit and miss, we got all the restaurants we wanted but very late dinner times (9:00) even booking the day after we arrived - they all ended up at the last half of our stay, though a few times we were called to go early. And even then the restaurants were half empty. I assume they hold them for butler guests and open up spaces once they go unclaimed, but there has to be a better system. A few times the bars had run out of some types of alcohol. I will say that the resort was responsive whenever I messaged them through the Gina app (which I had to do more than I expected I would), and almost all the issues were addressed, so if you are going, and have any issues onsite, don't wait - use the app. On a separate note, nothing to do with the resort, but we were astounded by a number of very rude, obnoxious and inconsiderate guests. Barging in front of people waiting, taking video calls full blast by the pool and in restaurants (including one person who put a basketball game on his phone in the middle of dinner) bringing speakers to play their own music even with music already playing at the pool, people leaving towels, dirty cups and dishes all over the resort. This was nowhere near as nice as our trip to the Sandals in St. Lucia. Not sure if this is a one off or a sign that Sandals quality has dropped, but we likely won't be trying another one. We've stayed at other 5 star resorts in the Caribbean and they are far better than what we experienced here. A few people have said it felt more like a 4 star resort, which I agree with. But when paying a 5-5+ star price, it is very disappointing. Read less
