Myself and my wife visited for a week to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. We had a club level room which was nice however I agree with some of the other reviewers that the rooms are a little dated. In hindsight I don't really believe club level is really necessary however it made booking reservations at the restaurants a little easier. Firstly, it is fantastic that the resort is only 20 minutes from the airport, however first impressions were not great as our concierge was quite dismissive and rude, when we booked the snorkelling tour and asked where the dive shop was, we were told to do the property tour to find out. Not really an acceptable response for a high - end resort in my opinion. We did have an issue with the room where once we came back to find the air conditioning unit had leaked with water cascading down the wall and pooling on the floor, however maintenance came out to resolve. The resort itself is the perfect size, very well manicured and maintained and everything within close proximity without having to walk too far to reach anywhere. In reality there is only a small road dividing this resort with the Sandals Royal, they may as well be the same resort as you still have access to all the restaurants, pools etc on both resorts. We shared the frustrations of many other travellers of having to get up at 06:00 every morning to get loungers by the pool before the butlers took them all for the premium guests, which did take away from the experience, only for the premium guests to mostly saunter down to the pool hours later at their leisure, which was very frustrating and not really what you want on holiday and it did definitely feel as though there was a class system. The beach was lovely and was usually very clean. The sea was quite rough when we were there however there is an area with wave breakers which could be used. The sea was very warm and there are complimentary catamarans you can take out at no extra cost with a member of staff however unfortunately the sea was too rough through our duration so we couldn't go out. The restaurants were superb, a personal favourite of mine was Neptunes with the views over the beach (also the lunches there were fabulous), also Chi (Asian food), and a huge thank you to our servers Avery and Deenesha (I hope the spelling is correct) who were wonderfully accommodating. We were disappointed with the Merry Monkey due to the lack of service, and after waiting 25 minutes for our desserts, we ended up leaving. Also we recommend visiting Heart And Soul, the sandwiches were delicious! We absolutely loved the craft beer bar at Lovers Lane, it was nice coming to a resort to find nice craft beer rather than the usually ghastly local beer resorts usually have on draft. Also the views from the Sky Bar were breathtaking, especially at night and were perfect for photos. There are photographers you can book to take photos of you around the resort and beach for your special occasion, you are under no obligation to buy and we were thankful to them for working with us until we got the photos we wanted. In addition to Avery and Deenesha, I would like to give a shoutout to Stacey at La Parisienne, Larken at the Infinity pool bar and also Brandon and Mario at Epix (photography), they are a credit to the resort! We also took a short walk off the property (perfectly safe) to some nice little shops and Dover market which are well worth a visit. In reality, it doesn't matter which resort you stay at, be it Sandals or Sandals Royal, just pick the room that feels right for you. Before leaving for our trip, we were concerned with the increasing quantity of negative reviews appearing on Tripadvisor, whilst also considering people may have set expectations too high, however I do agree with some concerns raised by other reviewers however our experiences on the whole were by no means negative. At the right price we would definitely consider staying here again. Read less

We booked this trip to get married here on the island, with a private beach ceremony from a lovely local wedding business. We chose Sandals as the place to stay for our trip due to its reputation for being a luxury 5 star resort. Luckily the local business we booked our wedding with was out of this world special, but the Sandals resort was such a big disappointment for us. Food is hard work here! Like seriously hard work! I like a cake and a biscuit like anyone but that’s literally the only thing available for snacking. Fruit is so limited here and you don’t see it other than in the breakfast Buffet. The buffets at breakfast and lunch are 3 star maximum. There is no dinner buffet, only restaurants. You can book the reservation restaurants once in your trip. The other restaurants without booking required have a waiting time of an hour minimum! You’d need to be out for the opening of the doors to be seated any quicker. We have travelled a lot and have never experienced anything like it! They make it super hard to eat here! The service here is anything but 5 star. It makes you feel bad for asking for things here like you’re doing something wrong… it’s the strangest experience. We travel a lot and stay in 5 star resorts and hotels and this place needs a serious change up to get it up to that standard. If you’ve been to 2 star and 3 star resorts before coming here, you probably won’t notice, but if you’re a frequent traveller of 5 star establishments, you will 100 percent be disappointed with this place. The place is super run down and unclean. Again, it needs some serious attention. Definitely shouldn’t have to tell my husband to watch out on the hand rails because they are covered in old bird poop! Housekeeping for us was hit and miss. Sometimes we had it, sometimes we had to call to ask for towels and toilet roll. The air con in our room was absolutely incredible, so we are super grateful for that! I had my hair and make up done in the royal side salon and it was amazing, thank you to Trudi. I also had a super lovely bridal assistant help me in my dress and someone in the concierge got me a nice cup of tea while I waited to be picked up. Grateful for those things so wanted to include them in my review. Also not sure if this is common in Barbados, but there are plenty of military planes/helicopters flying over the resort every day, just as a heads up, as this was normal during the day. Overall our stay wasn’t what we expected from a Sandals and hopefully the work can be put in to turn it around here as we spoke to so many other guests who said this is not Sandals standard as they have experienced before. Genuinely awful. Does not warrant a 5 star - barely a three. Rooms very tired and smelt of mould. Fridge items updated haphazardly. Beech ok but only saved by the weather - covered in smelly seaweed - far lovelier beeches in Dorset. Such a disappointment. I sometimes wonder while reading the reviews if my husband and I stayed at a different resort than other reviewers, we got lucky with no issues or some people just have really high (unrealistic) expectations. Most of our trip was wonderful. We felt that the resort was a perfect size. Big enough that it wasn't crowded and we could explore, but not so big it took too long to get places. We did worry at first as our first encounter with staff was a concierge who was quite rude and abrupt. Aside from the staff at the Merry Monkey pretty much ignoring us, and a really bad habit some staff had of taking your order without acknowledgement (so no idea if you were getting your drink/food), most staff were wonderful. To be honest, to see the way they were treated by some people, it's no wonder they develop attitudes or can't keep a smile 24/7. Our pros: -The resort was nice size and well maintained, mostly. - We never had any major issues with getting reservations or walk ins. Yes, some restaurants took a little longer but why are you in such a rush? -The infinity pool was great, although we enjoyed it much more in the mornings before it got too loud - The Sky bar was a nice place to chill in the evening - Going off the resort felt totally safe Cons: - There was a lack of consistency. Some nights we had turn down service, some nights we didn't. Sometimes our towels were replenished, one night we were left with absolutely none. Some days there was servers getting you drinks at the pool, other days no one. One day there was canapes being passed around - but only one day. - While I completely understand the work that must go into maintaining a large resort, doing construction or running loud machinery outside rooms at 6am isn't very accommodating - The loungers could use a good power wash. I know its just suntan lotion etc, but without a towel I wouldn't want to lay on them - We were looking forward to the hotdog cart but was no where to be found - I don't really understand what "Club Level" actually gives you aside from helping you make reservations. I'm sorry but a jar of cookies, a bowl of apples and a few triangle sandwiches isn't exactly what I'd call "snacks". That being said - food was plentiful so it wasn't an issue. To me the Club Level lounge wasn't a space I would want to relax in, nor feel comfortable doing anything other than making reservations, asking a question, etc. It may sound like I am being negative, but really we had a great time and the issues really never caused us any problems. These are more just things that could be improved. One thing that I wish would change, but won't: I would love the party pool/entertainment to move to the pool back by the Jerk Shack. Maybe this would free up all the loungers being reserved by 6 am. Even with all the loungers, no one was ever really on them, as most were in the pool. Read less
