Coconut Court Beach Hotel

Barbados, Caribbean

The hotel

About as ‘seaside’ as you can get, the Blades family have called this sand-hugging spot home for more than four decades. And they chose a pretty perfect beach for their hotel — which is probably why hundreds of Hawksbill marine turtles call it home too. As you’re here for the beach, the Blades have made sure you’re never far from it, whether you’re lazing on the free loungers, watching moonlight movies on the sands, soaking in the seafront pool and whirlpool, sipping frozen cocktails at the beach bar, or lingering over candlelit suppers at The Deck. The beach itself is lined with beautiful trees to provide natural shelter from the Caribbean rays, so those that don't wish to worship the sun need not worry. It’s not just by the beach though — it’s also steps from South Coast Boardwalk which links you to an array of shops, restaurants and Rockley Beach. The hotel also features an open air restaurant overlooking the white sand beach. Above all else, do not forget to savour a Pirate Punch during one of the several 'happy hours' each day — a traditional Blades family recipe with a twist!

Negatives: Significant road noise all day heard from the room and also from Jake's Bar opposite playing loud music until 11pm. Despite paperwork saying No Smoking in public areas, smoking was allowed on the pool deck and around the pool with the staff even supplying ashtrays. This was particularly unpleasant especially as there were small children in the area. Non-alcoholic fruit punch was BDS 18.00 (over £7.00) and not included in Happy Hour. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but will choose elsewhere next time. Read less

The breakfast menu did not have any non pork options, so one had to have eggs and beans every day. The toast, well fir some reason it was only toasted on one side. The lunch menu, again limited and rather frustrating when you order something and when served it is not as described on the menu. Fried chicken burger with jalapeños, but u get served a grill piece of chicken and no jalapeños !!! The waiting staff did not inform me they couldn't do fried chicken or that they had no jalapeños. I ordered a chicken club sandwich and asked for no bacon, twice I had to return the order as they had added bacon. But the worst part of the stay was the rudeness of a manager, Carlisle. She was rude, dismissive and when I asked her a question she didn't even have the courtesy to look at me, she just said no and walked off. Staff like that, I would not return. Read less

Right through from check in to check out, we were treated like royality by ALL of the staff and so impressed by the owner; Linda, who made a point to catch up with my wife and I to check if all was ok with our holiday. Hotel and room facilities were very good, along with pool and beach areas. I've severe mobilty issues but was afforded top class assistance when required; with special mentions for Kimeisha, Sharina and Kevin. The only issues were no lifts (Linda did mention lifts will be installed when possible) and no toilet facilities near to the Beach/Beach Bar. However, can't wait to visit the Coconut Court again! Well done everyone! Paul & Julie Martin Liverpool, England Read less

Lots of steps for those who have any mobility issues. The pool deck is the lowest level but you still have steps down to the beach and a bit of a view. Lots of steps for those who have any mobility issues. The pool deck is the lowest level but you still have steps down to the beach and a bit of a view. Sixteen steps per floor for a four story building not including the pool deck. We stayed on the floor above the pool deck and had a great view with a fair sized balcony. The pool is a good size but take NOTE there is not a kids pool. This month has had a lot of toddlers and diapered babies in the pool and all their floating toys. This month also had a lot of Sargassum on the beach and a Sahara Dust Wind so we couldn’t escape the screaming children at the pool because of the beach issues and stayed at the pool during the day. The hotel does keep the beach clean but cannot keep the sargassum under control. Mother Nature dictates. The hotel does have security presence on site. The Hotel staff are excellent from the front desk to housekeeping. The rooms are large with a microwave kettle, toaster & a proper sized sink & fridge. A very good cost saving in meals as food is extremely expensive in Barbados. The bathrooms have a large easy step in shower. Lots of hot water and water pressure. They have a wash line in the shower to hang clothing items on. No other washing facilities but for sending items out at a big cost for cleaning. The beds are very comfortable. The rooms are attended to every day. The two restaurants on site serve good food. The owners of this hotel are family owned and the pride in their business is evident in the service provided.
