The hotel

As if this hotel wasn't luxurious enough already, the recent renovations have taken Sandals Royal Bahamian to another level - and they're ready to welcome you back to experience everything new they have to offer. The swim-up suites are the standout room type at this property, allowing you to step right from the comfort of your room straight into a gently flowing river pool with views of the ocean ahead. It's basically a resort in itself, complete with beach club, pool, swim-up bar and spa experiences. Paradise: found and included. When you are feeling a bit more adventurous, there are a host of activities included in your stay so you can work up an appetite. Sandals Rayal is a great place if you want a relaxing vacation, are into water sports, or are just looking for a nice getaway. The staff is very courteous, and the food and nighttime entertainment are definitely on point. We stayed for almost 2 weeks and would have gotten bored had we not gotten into snorkeling as you will almost have seen and enjoyed everything by week 1. Pros: 1. The grounds are well kept and the cleanliness is like no other 2. The staff is very courteous 3. Water sports has a variety of activities to do that have no cost or, if you want to get into scuba and get certified it cost less to get it done there. 4. Nigtime entertainment is on point 5. Love the Butler service will talk about the need improvements in cons. 6. Pretty private island Cons: 1. Management needs to keep each section accountable for their portion of work ie: Butlers shouldn't be getting towels for guests everyday as that's a house keeping function, neither should they be keeping track of when the soap is out. 2. Upper Management really need to reassess the 3 butler team system! It doesn't work. Maybe a 2 man team but definitely NOT 3. We had 3 butlers and on day 1 our first guy seemed ok but then seemed to do just enough to get by. Our second one we had a communication issue on our second day but let me tell you he turned that frown into a smile and ensured we kept that smile for the duration of our stay. Our 3rd guy definitely understood the assignment and was on point from the first day we met him. I get it that each guest desires different things but I do feel this is a job to learn your guests. 3. Managment needs to assess the amount of rooms they assign to Butler teams. Its not fair for a couple to pay for the service but have to wait in lines for their meals, wait in lines at the bars, or be given direction of where to find things. These are services we can get at the concierge level. Overall we enjoyed our stay. Donovan at watersports who got me certified and was oh so patient with me when teaching the scuba certification, Alayna from returning guest office who jumped head on to try to solve issues I was experiencing on resort her words " one day of misunderstanding will leave you an unhappy guest, lets fix the issues now so you can leave a happy one" , Sterling who was always there at a call or text and even fix most of our room service delays before they became issues and Dylan who thinks ahead for everything. Dylan literally asked on his days whats the schedule mi lady we need to plan breakfast and lunch seeing your dinner is already set. This gentleman definitely listened to what we were expecting and he followed through (We opted for butler service to maximize time. We wanted to get scuba certified so we needed to make sure all meals were planned and after returning from scuba each day they would be able to get us lunch versus us having to worry lines and wait time). We would call once we were heading back, he placed our meal order and we just sent a text or called and asked where did he need us to be to set up for the evening. These gentlemen are definitely All Star Butlers and definitely made our time memorable and us thinking of returning in the near future as well as recommend to friends and family. Read less

This hotel is by far the prettiest we have ever been to, all interior is well thought out and the entire resort is extremely pleasing to the eye. The food (once you were finally able to get served) was faultless, all food was absolutely delicious. La Plume does the best breakfast (A La Carte) along with the best evening meal but you would need to book this as soon as you arrive. The service offered from almost all staff was absolutely abysmal. They all look as though the do not want to be there, you are made to feel like an inconvenience and hardly anyone is willing to help (I could go on for hours) The alcohol and general beverage options and availabilities were sub par, considering what you are paying to be there. They were constantly running out of alcohol, or one side of the bar would be telling you something is unavailable and the next minute someone else would be served with the exact thing you requested. It was a mission on our behalf to ensure we had a full room service, 3 times we had our used towels removed from the room but no replacements and then we had to call several times to get fresh ones. The evening entertainment is more suited to a retirement home, nearly everything finished around or before 10pm. When attempting to be seated at one of the walk in restaurants we were often advised that any party larger than 2 was difficult to accommodate. In spite of all my above criticisms there were a few staff which went above and beyond (Kendrika, Static, Micah, Leonardo, and the lady serving drinks on the beach) In conclusion, I will not recommend this hotel to anyone as I did not feel we received value for money. Eventually management saw and stepped in but come on, dont leave a guy hanging. Needless to say, he wasn’t happy. Boat ride to private island soliciting tips, no big deal but i didn’t have cash with me as it’s supposed to be all inclusive but got funny looks from crew when I didn’t tip. Overall we are loyal to Sandals, we love the brand.. we liked going to this location for convenience but we are trying Barbados next. Read less

First, I do not typically write reviews unless an experience was extremely outstanding. But in this case, I believe people like us who tend to be fairly easy to please need to know what they may expect for their hard earned money. Second, this was our first Sandals Resort. We have stayed at Hyatt, Riu and other all-inclusives in other beachfront locations. We love all-inclusives because we can truly relax and take the guesswork out of most planning. Sandals Royal Bahamian was the most expensive option for our Nassau trip, but appeared to offer the relaxation we were looking for. We prefer to get to and stay at the beach as long as possible, so we are simple and look for services that support our endeavor. That said, here is our review of Sandals Royal Bahamian: 1. Transportation to and from the airport was easy. They were polite and thorough with our luggage. 2. Club Level Concierge was Mediocre as a Whole. We have young adult children. We get that they are learning how to be service oriented, and I was quick to let them dispense from the obviously scripted speeches from the moment we arrived. "Just be yourself; we are chill", I was quick to let them know. Most of them were grateful for that. We were quickly passed from staff to staff, as if everyone had something better to do than get us to our room. Kristin (M), was the most friendly. He always called to make sure room service requests were fulfilled. Jonathan and Emerald at East Bay were helpful when asked. Otherwise, we were invisible which wouldn't matter to us much except other staff seemed so miserable to be there let alone acknowledge our presence. 3. Bar Tenders. Speaking of miserable, we could count on one hand how many times we felt acknowledged standing at a bar. When we would finally catch their eye, it was as if we were bothering them. When we tried to lightheartedly ask questions about a drink or be polite, we were met with no acknowledgement that we were even heard, no "no problem" or "one sec", just a miserable dead panned expression. It got to the point we were dreading whose turn it was to go to any bar for a refill. Many times they didn't have something and that's expected, but a simple smile and reply would be acceptable as opposed to making us feel like we needed to apologize all the time. Our first drink at the bar the day we got there was bathtub warm beer. No explanation- no apology. But we rolled with it and just learned to stock our fridge the night before with cans and take them ourselves. Of all staff at any resort, you expect at least some personality from the bar tenders. We learned after day one to be short with requests and forego the polite banter. Yes, we are from the US south, but come on. No one wants to work customer service, we get it, but a little smile and some polite eye contact goes a long way. 3. We Will Always Be Tippers. Sandals has a no tip policy for good reason. But this experience has taught us that service industry workers will always need incentive. At other all inclusives, we tipped anyway. At this Sandals, we didn't personally meet a single staff member go the teeny umph further to earn that or we would have this time as well. We despise US tip culture as much as the rest, and it may not have mattered but we at least like to see some gratitude. In our line of work, we see people at their worsts every day and we still put on a pleasant smile and attitude. 4. The Highlights Were Room Service Responsiveness, Housekeeping and Other "Behind the Scenes" Workers. We were pleased with any requests made over the phone. We never had to wait long for room service or those requests. The workers who brought the food were polite and always followed up. Housekeeping would come throughout the day to make sure we had what we needed. We were rarely told they couldn't accommodate something. We enjoyed more meals in our room and you will see why below. 5. All but One Restaurant Was a Logistical Nightmare. Here is where we give a very special shout out to Janice at the Queen's Pearl. The pub was the only place we felt seen, the staff was accommodating and knew how to handle seating and wait service. Our first reservation at Butch's, we waited over two hours from the time of our reservation to be sat and served. The food was not that great either. At Tesoro i the evening, it was as if they didn't have enough wait service to seat people even though there would be an abundance of tables. We gave up and didn't try the rest. Breakfast was always good because it was a buffet, but you were lucky to get a water refill most of the time. But at the Queen's Pearl on day four, we were shocked by Janice's friendliness, politeness, ability to handle the crowd (all by herself on one night), etc. Also, Static (M) at the Queen's Pearl. He was clearly an entertainer and knew sometimes you just have to be friendly. 6. All in All, the Resort itself is Beautiful and Clean. Despite the service aspects, we very much enjoyed the private island beach and anywhere we could just be alone. The other guests were very friendly, polite, respectful and pleasant. No one was rude or inappropriate. If we ever try a Sandals Resort again (and I am not sure that we will), we will definitely research other traveler's experiences with staff interactions. We didn't believe we were asking too much and probably had unrealistic expectations of general human politeness. But we won't make the mistake of being overly apologetic for our own presence on an expensive vacation again. Read less
